Zip Lite
An app that’s not worth your time
Decompressing ZIP files
If you’re not a KaiOS app developer, this app is not for you. The reason is, this app lets you open folders that end with ‘.zip’, but the entire process can be quite confusing. Select ‘Browse files’ to begin. The app will ask for access to your phone’s storage. Click ‘Allow’ and select the folder that appears.
A list of subfolders containing the files stored in your phone will be displayed. Some of these subfolders contain your photos, videos and application data. Select the subfolder where your ZIP file is located. For example, if you downloaded a ZIP file from the internet browser, it would likely be in the downloads folder.
Within your selected folder, search for the ZIP file. Select ‘Extract all’ on the bottom left corner. Once completed, a message will pop up informing you how many files have been extracted.
The extracted files can be found in various built-in KaiOS apps. For example, audio files will show up on the ‘Music’ app, and text files on the ‘Books’ app.
For someone with prerequisite tech knowledge, this app will come in handy and the interface is well-designed.
If the extracted files aren’t text, audio or video files, they will be extracted to a folder named ‘extracted_files’ which isn’t accessible on the KaiOS phone. You’ll need to connect your KaiOS phone to a computer to access the file. The app could also include a tutorial or FAQ page for those learning about decompressing files.
