A diverse collection of map types in one app

Good for:

Exploring your surroundings, or planning a hiking route

How it works:

Allow geolocation when you first open the app, then wait for the app to detect your location. Then, press the phone’s centre button to open the menu. From the menu, you can choose from many map types, such as road, topographic and time zone. Navigate the menu with the left and right buttons. When you’re ready, close the menu and scroll through the map with the navigation keys.

The good:

Many types of maps are available. In the menu, there is a section titled ‘Wikilocation’ that links some popular locations to their Wikipedia pages, so you can learn more about them. If you’re confused by the app, there is also a ‘Tips’ section in the menu to help you out. Kobi thought that was great!

The bad:

The app may not always be able to detect your location. In those instances, the app will say you are on ‘null island’ – a real spot that’s zero degrees in latitude and longitude (0ºN 0ºE, where the prime meridian and equator intersect), but isn’t actually an island!

The ‘Tips’ section in the menu tells you how to fix that – simply switch from wifi to mobile data (but do beware of high data consumption if you’re using data).
