Sunset Sunrise
Find sunrise and sunset times for any date
Knowing exactly when the sun will rise and set, zenith and twilight around the world.
The app’s Help section says it will show sunrise and sunset timings for any palace in the world and for any date. It will also show the times of twilight and zenith (when the sun is at its highest point) and duration of the day.
Choose one of 240 locations in the world or add up to 4 of your locations.
To add your location, you need to know the latitude, longitude (you can google these) and local offset (UTC time zone – winter time if available) of the location. To set a negative (–) longitude, latitude or time zone use the # button. Also, the app is supposed to be able to find your local latitude and longitude by GPS (by selecting the ‘Get GPS Coordinates’ button).
When you manage to enter your location, the app does display all the fields it describes: times of the sunrise, sunset, zenith, end of twilight and duration of the day.
Kobi tried to add a location by opting to search for my location by GPS, no location ever loaded. Good thing I wasn’t lost at sea!
Then under ‘Change Location’, I tried to select Singapore (where I was) from the 240 locations. Locations are listed by 2 alphabets which indicate the country, followed by the location name in that country, for example ‘SO, Mogadishu’ for Mogadishu in Somalia. However, some of the country names seem to be abbreviations of the country’s name in the local language, like ‘ES, Madrid’. Kobi assumes the ‘ES’ refers to ‘Espana’ (‘Spain’ in Spanish). This becomes a problem when searching if you aren’t familiar with the name of the country in its local language.
Also, the list of locations isn’t in strictly alphabetical order. For example, VC, Kingston is followed by WS, Apia then SM, City of San Marina. So it was a headache to scroll through the 240 locations to find Singapore. Eventually, it was found in the predominantly ‘S’ section (SG, Central Area). Phew!
